The Five Reiki Tenets
The Five Principles of Reiki were adapted by Mikao Usui, who read the works of Emperor Meiji. These theories came directly from Meiji's writings. Usui went a step further and included him in his Reiki practice. The good news is that you do not need to study Reiki to apply these principles to your life.
The first principle is “Just for today, I will not worry.” This is probably the most difficult principle listed. It is hard to think that we are not in control. But in meditation and prayer, we can learn to transmit those worries into greater consciousness and gain greater faith and trust in the world in which we live.
The second principle is “Just for today, I will not anger.” Sometimes when we are angry, we need to find out what is causing the real problem. Is it the person who cut in front of you or the guy at the store with ten returns? Sometimes we find behavior in other people that reflects our originality. Sometimes it is difficult to admit. Look at other people as teachers and try to figure out what lesson they have to teach you.
The third principle is “I will honor all life.” You must respect all of God's creations. You can help by planting trees and flowers, watching food, the love of your family, the air you breathe, and all the animals, rocks, and oceans.
The fourth principle is “I will live my life honestly.” Did you miss the family picnic because of illness or because you were too afraid to tell Aunt Martha that you really didn't want to go? Ask for guidance in your dreams in prayer. You must respect the truth about your emotions and not keep them to yourself.
The fifth principle is “I will give thanks for everything.” Believe that love and happiness should be in your life, and feel grateful for the smallest things and for the gift of being here on Earth.
